Thank you to everyone who joined our April 9 Open House as we presented our master plan for the Wellington Basin sector! We were pleased to meet members from the local community and stakeholders alike to gather valuable input and answer questions regarding the proposed vision for Wellington Basin.

Join us for an exciting opportunity as Canada Lands Company presents its preliminary master plan for the Wellington Basin Sector.

Following the release of the Office de Consultation Publique de Montréal (OCPM)’s “Master Plan for Bridge-Bonaventure” consultation report, and Canada Lands Company’s own extensive engagement process, For a Healthy and Inclusive Development of the Wellington Basin, the Company developed a preliminary master plan vision for its Wellington Basin site.

Canada Lands cordially invites you to attend in an open house event where you can view the preliminary master plan, ask the project team questions, and share your valuable insight. This is your chance to contribute to the development of a vibrant community that will include new housing options, including affordable housing, alongside green spaces, waterfront access, and diverse community, commercial and artistic activities.

A summary of the open house will be posted on the website, along with a brief survey to further explore certain aspects of the projet.

The virtual presentation and workshop on May 31, 2023 brought together 24 participants, representing 17 different organizations, in 4 work groups. The main objective was to present the results of the collaborative process, in particular the collective aspirations, as well as the ideas integrated into the conceptual proposal by Sid Lee Architecture.

The event began with Atelier Urbain presenting the synthesis of the collaborative process, followed by Christopher Sweetnam-Holmes of Canada Lands Company (CLC), who outlined the development targets for CLC's sector, stressing the importance of aligning collective aspirations with those of the organization. The presentation by the Sid Lee Architecture team included the following elements: vision and design brief, site programming and activation, and proposed building form.

Finally, work groups were formed, allowing participants to share their thoughts and comments on the elements presented. This virtual workshop enabled in-depth discussion on the key elements of the master plan, reinforcing collaboration and mutual understanding between the various stakeholders.

The collaborative workshop held on May 10, 2023 was devoted to the topic of governance, which has proved to be an important one for the progression of the project. Specifically designed to engage in-depth reflection on this issue and open a dialogue on the most appropriate form of governance for the development of the Wellington Basin, this collaborative workshop brought together experts and community representatives, for a total of 16 people, representing 14 different organizations.

The main objective was to define the elements that would enable the project to become a world reference in matters of governance, while identifying the steps needed to implement innovative governance and clarifying the roles of the stakeholders involved.

The Participatory Activity held on April 25, 2023 brought together 32 participants representing 27 different organizations. The objective was to get their feedback on three (3) potential scenarios for the development of the Wellington basin, developed by Sid Lee Architecture. The event was structured in two main parts: free wandering and co-creation workshops.

The free wandering enabled participants to understand the context of the project. Kiosks presented information on the Wellington Basin, such as ownership, heritage, employment and mobility. The three (3) scenarios and a model of the site were also on display. Interactive boards allowed participants to explore various possibilities for the development of the Wellington Basin. An immersive experience zone allowed participants to project themselves into a number of referent projects. This event provided an opportunity to gather feedback on the scenarios, and to identify their strengths and areas requiring improvement.

Given that divergent opinions had emerged from the Collaborative Workshop on March 31, 2023, participants were invited to prioritize potential ideas by theme, during the co-creation workshops. This process helped to clarify orientations and identify essential elements relating to the green and blue grid, mobility and building heights.

The Collaborative Workshop held on March 31, 2023 brought together nearly 70 individuals representing 46 different organizations, including invited experts and representatives of local and community organizations. The purpose of the event was to identify the elements to be taken into account in the development of the Wellington Basin Master Plan, promoting healthy and inclusive development in the area. Over the course of the day, participants discussed a variety of topics, including heritage, the future identity of the area, the green and blue grid, mobility, housing, as well as industries, businesses and institutions. Participants were divided into 10 distinct work groups for the various activities.

In preparation for the day, a preliminary analysis was carried out of the various development proposals for the Wellington basin. This analysis identified shared elements of vision, which were presented to the participants to guide their discussions throughout the Collaborative Workshop.
